The first way that people approach the acquisition of goals is by what I call "negative yearning"
They want the new car or the new house or the perfect relationship but deep down inside, in their subconscious minds, they don't really believe that they can have it.
So, they negatively yearn for whatever item it is, believing that when they get it...they will feel better about themselves and their life.
But what happens with negative yearning is that they push away from themselves whatever it is they want.
The more they chase, the more elusive it becomes and this usually leads to resentments and blame and a whole host of other negative emotions, which leads to more negative yearning.
They live on a kind of nightmare merry go round.
In the film "Groundhog Day", Bill Murray kept waking up in the morning having the same dissatisfying day over and over again until he worked out that by changing who he was, he changed what happened in his life. It's a funny movie and if you haven't seen it definitely have a look.
The key point here is that negative yearning pushes the things you want in your life away from you...
...and you end up paying "Wanting it Tax".
Positive expectancy pulls to you the things you want in life and this is what the other 5% of people in the world practice.
When you feel good about yourself, the good that you desire will come to you. This is the opposite of chasing what you want believing that when you get it you will feel good about yourself.
It’s a catch 22 situation really...
On the one hand you have a bunch of goals that are going to feel good when you get them and on the other hand, in order to get them you need to feel like you've got 'em already .
If you're confused, don't worry! One of my teachers once said to me "That confusion means that you are ready for a breakthrough".
It will all become clearer in a minute...I promise!
For now just let this idea "click in your mind"...
When you realize that you can feel good about yourself without all the trappings... from that point on you begin to receive them.
Some people call that detachment – knowing that you will actually get what you want , but feeling good about yourself whether you get it or not.
A few of you might be saying but how can I feel good about myself when:
and a million other reasons...
The reality is, however, that it's precisely at these times that you really need to feel good about yourself and the way that you do this is by changing your thinking.
If you change your thinking …then you'll change the way you feel from negative to positive and when you are positive, your focus is on the good in your life... and that brings more good into your life.
And that is why what I am about to show you is so very very powerful.
If changing your thinking is the ultimate key to success, then this is the ultimate way to changing your thinking.
Before we explore the workings of the mind and how it affects what we think, let's make a quick comparison of the attributes for success and the attributes for failure.

Key Attributes for Failure

Success or failure in life begins with a choice, but is much , much more than just a choice...as you'll soon discover.
It’s an amazing thing to see. Usually it’s a set up in a box like a tiny little version of a circus ring, similar to the ones your parents took you to see when you were a kid. But instead of animals, there are fleas, hundreds of them, perhaps thousands, jumping around, and of course, there is no lid on the box...it's an illusion
For most people, when they see it, the thing that is the hardest to believe is that the fleas don’t just jump out and escape. I mean, it's just common sense. We all know that fleas, in their natural habitat, (before they are trained), can jump great distances! They jump from the ground onto large animals and from one animal to another. They are like a little “Superman”!
If you were to, stop for a moment, and think about the process of what happens, you'll realise it’s all in the training. Quite simple really. The circus master puts a clear lid on their box so that they can see through it to the outside world, but can't escape.
Intuitively they want to escape, they want freedom. They can see where they want to go and they try to get there. But after a while of bouncing off the lid, for the most part, they give up.
They have been conditioned that they can only jump so high; even though the reality is that they can jump much higher.
When their conditioning is complete, the circus master removes the lid and there the fleas stay until they die.
I think it's a little bit sad. I’m sure that occasionally a flea or two make the great escape, but for the majority…well... finally when they die, after a life time of self imposed limitation, they probably get picked out with a pair of tweezers and unceremoniously tossed in the trash bin. What a waste!
As for the few who made the "great escape", well you can imagine the other fleas talking about them.
Did you hear about Albert?
Yeah, I hear he moved to a sunnier climate. Rumor has it, he has a job biting dogs on the ass. He always was lucky.
Is there anything good on TV tonight or shall we go down the Pub?
We are all constantly thinking and the type of thoughts and ideas that fill a persons mind will directly affect their actions and thus their circumstance in life.
For success to reign in our lives we need to condition or minds and control our thinking and having a picture of the mind would surely help us to understand it better, wouldn't it?
Usually when people are asked to picture their mind they think of the picture below... a brain

But the brain is just an organ in the body which performs certain relaying functions to keep the body running properly. It's certainly a part of our mind body spirit consciousness, but it's not our mind. The brain of Albert Einstein was reputedly hollow and filled with water.
The workings of the mind are a complete mystery to over 90% of the population. It usually puts people in to state of confusion.
